spaghetti disco

here in 607 we know that inspirations come in many shapes and sizes. who knew it could come in the form of spaghetti? why spaghetti, you ask. well i haven't been feeling very inspired lately but going to spaghetti disco with hayley was just what i needed. it's a benefit dinner for the village learning place where hayley works and has traditionally been a service project that apo (alpha phi omega, the national service fraternity) helps out with. so it has become our little tradition to volunteer together :)

last year in honor of 2012, the theme was "disco like there's no tomorrow" and had this awesome design:

we helped take donations at the door where we learned about square (the ipad/iphone app that lets you swipe credit cards) while sporting our lovely heather orange staff t-shirts (hayley's favorite color!)

this year the theme was slightly less exciting: "a celebration of little free libraries" (places where you can leave a book, take a book)

but i was stoked because the t-shirts were green! (i think we might love scarves or something...)

and because we got to spend the night helping the kids make bird houses--nailing, glueing, painting (thanks to home depot's generosity and shameless advertising).
we helped them go from this:
... to this!

thankfully no fingers were bruised in the process... but i'd take a purple fingernail and spending time working with those kids over taking donations at the door any time. it was an extremely rewarding experience, and i'm so happy we were able to do it again this year!
