good eats: salt

in the third and final round of our restaurant week excursion, we decided to go to the most talked about restaurant in baltimore (or so it seems...). someone had said that if you like woodberry kitchen, that salt was even better. seeing as i have not personally been to woodberry kitchen (but had heard great things), i wasn't sure what to expect (i was not disappointed)
first course: with 8 things to choose from it was hard to decide. i personally tried to wild boar terrine (with applewood bacon, dried cranberries, pistachios, dijon, toast points). others had what is pictured below as well as the crispy pork belly confit and duck egg (with maple black pepper, brioche) and the salt cod fritters (with green onion and lemon aioli)
cape may fluke ceviche: avocado and sweet potato puree, meyer lemon juice, red onion, aji amarillo, cilantro
winter green salad: hazelnuts, apples, fennel, dried cherries, parmesan, citrus vinaigrette
second course: the best thing about salt's menu was their creative combinations. lauren't dish (below) was the only picture that turned out, but other plates were just as decorated! our taste buds were blessed with the citrus glazed mahi mahi filet (with plantain and poblano pepper hash, avocado, curry coconut sauce), butter rum shrimp and grits (with andouille sausage, shallot tomatoes), slow cooked veal, pork, and beef ragu (with soft parmesan and arugula polenta), and rabbit confit pasta (with mushrooms, cipollini onions, swiss chard, wide noodle pasta, and pecorino romano)
baked stuffed acorn squash: spelt berries, root vegetables, aged cheddar, toasted pine nuts
dessert: best part of any meal. no matter how full i am from dinner, i always have room for dessert in my "dessert tummy" (throw back to my elementary school days).
chocolate peanut butter tart with whipped cream
honey citrus cake with rosemary ice cream
goat cheese donuts with lavender honey coffee ice cream
i would have to say salt and pazo were my two faves in regards to the selection of interesting food items. ouzo bay (which you will read about shortly!) was a cool atmosphere and great service, but a little disappointing on the choices. there are so many other restaurants that we need to try! check back for more eats :)
